Epic India: Scenes from the Ramayana

Thursday, September 9, 11:00 a.m.
The Ramayana, a classic of early Indian literature, is infused with mythology and the legendary exploits of the gods, particularly Lord Vishnu in his earthly appearance as the divine-king Rama. Guest lecturer Rebecca Arkenberg discusses the mythology of Rama, who provides the subject matter for an important genre of Indian paintings featured in the exhibition.

Music-Related Films
The Museum presents documentary and feature films and videos related to special exhibitions and the permanent collection throughout the year. These films, shown in the Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium or the Ruth and Harold D. Uris Center for Education, are free with Museum admission unless otherwise noted. The Piano: King of Instruments
Tuesday, September 14, 2:00 p.m.
Directed by Alex Marengo, this 1999 film traces the history of the piano and its importance in Western music (51 min.).

Making a Cello
Thursday, September 16, 2:00 p.m.
Directed by Roger Hill, this 1976 film demonstrates how a master craftsman creates a cello using both traditional and modern tools and techniques (40 min.).
